William enlisted in Calgary, Alberta on the 18th February 1916. Born in Ballynahinch, he had resided with his Aunt, a Mrs Blair of Ballykine, before leaving for Canada. He also had an uncle who lived in Meeting Street a Mr D Murray. William was killed on the 18th November 1916 by a sniper near Courcelette at about 8am that morning. Hi Father, Stewart, was living in Paisley, Scotland at the time.
William is buried in Adanac cemetery and is remembered on Ballynahinch War Memorial. Any additional information on William, others named on the War Memorial or anyone listed on our website would be gratefully received.
