Alexander was born on the 31st May 1890 to John and Agnes Kingan of Market Square, Ballynahinch. The 1901 census records Alex as living on Railway Street with his Father, Grandmother, Uncle and two older brothers. It appears Alexander's Mother Agnes had died, John is listed as a widower. Alex emigrated to Canada in 1910 and lived in Toronto, having previously worked for J. Clarke and Co in Belfast.
Alex was killed in action on the 18th November 1916 aged 26 attacking the "Desire Trench" which incurred heavy losses. Having no known grave he is commemorated on Vimy Memorial and Ballynahinch War Memorial.
